Building Your First Website Explained
Quick Guide

This guide will attempt to explain the steps involved in creating your own website. This guide will provide you with an overview of how to start and only serves as an introduction to website design and development.

Step 1: Choose the right software.

The easiest software to work with is a WYSIWYG (What You See Is What You Get) HTML editor software package. Below is a list of commercial, shareware and freeware software packages, that you my consider using. We suggest you go through the list and select one that suites your needs.

Step 2: Build your web page.

After you have downloaded or purcahsed and installed the software that you selected above, you should be able start building your web site. We suggest that begginers follow the tutorials and help files, provided by the different software packages. We have also provided links to most of the websites of the software packages listed above. Most of the software packages, provide on-line help files and tutorials.

After studing the help files and tutorials, all that reamins is for your to build your web page and to publish it once you are happy with the end result.

Step 3: Publishing your web page.

Once you have completed the design and layout of your web site on your local computer, you will need to publish your web site to our servers on the internet. Most of the software packages has publishers build-in to them that will allow you to publish your finished website to our servers.

If the software you are using do not have a build-in publishing tool, you will need to save the your web site on your local computer. You will then need an FTP client, like FileZilla, to upload the published files to our servers.

Please remember that your homepage (first page) must have a file name of index.php, index.html or index.htm all in lowercase.

Step 4: Sit back and enjoy your creation.

Your web site should now be uploaded and live on the the internet. To access your web site, open your browser and type in your domain name in the address bar of your browser.

Your web site should now load in your web browser. If you are not experiencing any caching problems, this will be the web site that the rest of the world will see when they visit your web site.

Problems

If you have any problems with publishing your web site using the software, you will need to go through the tutorials and help files on how to publish a web page.

If you are having problems with FTPing your web site to the server, check your FTP account details or contact our support department.
